The Defence Minister of the Republic of Armenia is the head of the Ministry of Defence is charged with the political leadership of the Armed Forces of Armenia. 
The Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia comprise two services: the Army, and the Air Force and Air Defense.  It was partially formed out of the former Soviet Army forces stationed in the Armenian SSR (mostly units of the 7th Guards Army of the Transcaucasian Military District). Being a landlocked country, Armenia has no navy.
The Republic of Armenia Ministry of Defense is a republican body of executive authority, which elaborates and implements the policies of the Republic of Armenia Government in the defense sector.

The Department's tasks include:

Organisation and procurement of armament and military hardware, food, other property as well as material resources for the Armed Forces in accordance to the procedures prescribed by law and other legal acts;
Participation in the elaboration of State Program on Development of Armament and Military Equipment,
Participating in the elaboration of the Ministry's logistics annual procurement plan;
Organisation and provision of military hardware and armament and other material resources, etc.
